As I enter my sophomore year at JSU, I am certain I made the best decision of my life to date. I didn?t follow my friends to Auburn or Alabama, and they all thought I was crazy. But I wanted to play in the Marching Southerners, and not get lost in the shuffle of a huge University.

JSU is not huge, but it?s not small, either. I think we have something like 10,000 + students now. And it feels like a huge school with all the activities and amenities here. But unlike my best friend who?s in Tuscaloosa right now, my professors actually know my name, give out their home and cell phone numbers, and take the time to help me succeed here.

Major stadium and dorm expansions and upgrades going on now. So in a year or so, this place will be beautiful! Not that it?s a dump or anything, anyway. The buildings are all well-maintained. Come visit JSU and spend a quiet day here as well as a football game. Preview Day is fun, but honestly, chaotic like it would be at any school. The folks here do their best to make it worthwhile, but it?s humanly impossible anywhere to give you warm fuzzies with a game going on and hoards of people clamoring to get their attention. I?m so glad I came back for a second look. The admissions folks are fantastic- they will become your friends and advocates.

I think Jacksonville State is the best kept secret in the South.
