I started school on a scholarship. I completed 2 full years before I decided that I wasn't happy with my scholarship anymore so I dropped it. Unfortunately, I didn't have a job or any other means of income other than student loans, credit and some savings. Once that dwindled, I had to start working full time to pay the bills and had to quit school after the 1st semester of my junior year. At the time, I owed the University a little over $4000, which I could not, in any way, afford to pay. Later, I decided to try to get back into school. I was told that I had to pay the money in order to enroll. I told them to let me register and I could get a federal loan to pay what I owed and I could pay the rest out of pocket on a payment plan. They wouldn't cooperate. I decided that maybe I could work around it and I filed for an academic appeal (since I left college early, my grades were poor during my last semester). They used the information on the forms to send my current address to the Kentucky Department of Revenue who told me I had to pay what was now over $5000 or my assets would be seized. So, Morehead State University is only interested in your money. They see students as dollar signs and not people. Anyone who has attended there would know judging by the stupid fees they add (such as those for a rec center that won't be built until most have graduated) and the parking passes that go up every year. So, now I've got my debt on a payment plan through a collection agency (who was so much easier to work with that the school ever thought about being) and I'm going to try to get my transcript since technically I now owe nothing to MSU since they handed off the debt. The slogan "Education Pays" really means that your education pays the state of Kentucky.
