After spending a year at Salve, I would advise any prospective students not to go there. Not only is the social scene boring, the academics are not challenging and not worth the expensive, and annually increasing tuition. Newport is beautiful; there's no denying that, but unless you're 21, it really isn't that exciting, especially during the winter. Unless you know upperclassmen or are part of a sports team, parties are nearly impossible to find. And when you do find them, they're still not that great. Most of the students came from private high schools, and are snobby rich kids. The campus is beautiful too…all the dorms are nice, as well as the academic buildings. The food is absolutely disgusting and despite several student efforts to improve it, the administration doesn't care. There have also been serious student efforts, petitions, etc, to get an on campus pub, and change Salve from being a dry campus. Several schools similar to salve (PC, Fairfield, Holy Cross, Stonehill) allow legal drinking on campus, but not Salve. On weekends, campus is dead, nothing goes on ON campus. The administration does not care about their students outside of the classroom, which is probably why Salve has such a high transfer rate. Also, RA's do rounds all the time and you can not get away with drinking or really doing anything in your room.

In my opinion, neither the social or academic aspects of salve are worth the money I was paying to go there. I'm not trying to put the school down because some people really do like it. But before you commit to going there, you should really look beyond the pretty campus.
