The advertising program is a complete hell hole and money pit. You will be throwing your money down the tubes if you major in advertising. Plus most of the professors are psychopaths in that program. Although there is plenty of diversity on campus everybody breaks up into cliques and everybody pretty much has the small town conservative mentality. Life is very country hick in Austin. It's not the same as being in Miami or San Fransisco. Austin isn't even near as good as Dallas, Texas. |

The University of Texas at Austin has it all: stellar reputation, beautiful campus, friendly people, exciting city, and nice professors. When I came to UT I thought I would be a small fish in a big pond, but I never once felt like that here. I was ALWAYS able to reach out to my professors and advisers for help, and I had every chance for success. There are affordable ways to live in West Campus and walk or take the bus to school. Austin as a city is wonderful, natural beauty and great nightlife. There are also so many great parties for undergrads. I was never involved in the Greek scene and I met SO many great, fun people. Greek life is not a substantial part of the UT culture, and if you can't meet people at UT, you can't meet people anywhere. The campus is so diverse and anyone can find his/her place here. Yes UT is a big football school, but that is a huge part of the fun and the UT culture. Football season is great, but UT is also a great school. Yes, it's hard, and it's supposed to be. I LOVE UT and I would definitely come back if I had to make the decision all over again.Only negative—I wouldn't major in advertising.
