You have to understand that everyone is not cut from the same cloth. How many dorm rooms have you knocked on to help the new students feel comfortable. |
First of all, it is no one's responsibility to pull people out of their dorm rooms to be social except for the person themselves. I have never excluded anyone (and don't know anyone that ever has) simply because they're a new student. An effort must be made to get to know people, that's all I'm saying. You can't expect people to "notice you" or want to get to know you if all you do is go to class and sit in your room. On a side note though, all of the dorms I lived in, when you noticed a new kid on your floor/suite etc. everyone introduced themselves. The new students that got included into things were the ones that made an effort to know people. It seems to me you either were or are referencing a transfer student, because at the beginning of the school year it's always difficult to tell who the "new" students are. |
Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
Roger Williams is what you make it…period. Everyone that says there was nothing to do didn't take the time to go out and look for it. I will say that this is not a school where you can walk down "Frat Row" (or some equivalent) to find a random party to go to last minute on a Saturday night. However, if you put yourself out there and make an effort to make friends, you will always have a place to party or something to do. The intramural programs are awesome (again something you have to go out and sign up for…you can't sit around hope someone will ask you). Ultimately, as I said, you have to (and will) make your experience what it is. If you want to have friends and a good time you can. If you want the course work to be challenging and intellectually stimulating, it can be. Or you can sit in your room all day everyday alone, get alright grades and blame everyone but yourself for your horrible college experience. It's your call.
