You have to understand that when you go here you have to work your butt off to get the kind of results your seeking. This isn't really a "Pop, Rock, Metal" school like some cats have the idea. It's really a Jazz, Latin, and Funk school, that's what almost all the classes are based off of. Here it's NOT about what you can play BUT how you play it that's most impressive. Berklee is a wealth of information that's almost a little too much to absorb at one time.

You can't expect to go to class during the day and then at night go out and party and do all the other stupid stuff that college students do. You have to take it seriously and put in a lot of work to make your weaknesses your strengths. You're here to make connections, do your work and practice your butt off, that's what Berklee is for, and to get a great education. All of my teachers are what you'd call "douche bags". They're extremely difficult, they assign a lot of homework, they're extremely critical of your playing style, and they want you to be the absolute best you can be. A lot of people forget about that last part. You'll never hear a kid that's getting A's in his classes, doing really well and practicing a lot complain about the teacher and how "stupid" or "closed minded" s/he is. You CANNOT go to this place with an ego because you'll get shut down so fast, and I've seen it happen to a lot of pretentious cats. You have to open your door and keep it open, not close it when the teacher says something that you don't agree with. You can't always be right. These guys are experts in the field and know what they're talking about.

Yeah, the school's a lot of money but you get what you pay for, and you get out what you put in. So work hard, stay off drugs keep your head screwed on straight and you'll be alright.
