UC is a good school and can provide it's students with opportunities to grow, succeed, and gain relative experience in their major.

However, the social life here is terrible! The school is completely Cincinnati-oriented and there are very few people that are not from the state of Ohio. People are mostly from the region and form cliques with people that they already know. Very little student diversity. This school is just an extension of high school, very childish and lame. If you are not that school spirit bro/bra type you will not fit in, unless you are in DAAP. If you are in DAAP you will find friends if you're an artsy hipster who loves macbooks. If you're not, you won't find any friends here either.

At UC you feel like you live in a bubble. The neighborhood surrounding the campus is terrible and run down, there are muggings and rapes almost daily. I even got mugged. Additionally, Cincinnati is not a very good city. It's comparable to Detroit. The suburbs are booming but the city absolutely sucks. There is no good nightlife, just dirty, ghetto, and shitty bars. There is very little to do around the city and if you don't have a car- you're screwed. The city does terrible job at providing it's residents with public transportation options. If you want to stay on campus your whole college experience and drink with childish Ohioans, then this may be the place for you. Overall, the school doesn't have a very good vibe and I would not reccommend it to anyone unless they fit a certain profile. Out of state people, PLEASE don't go here, you will feel left out of the group.

responseYou've been at UC for not even two full months. You should probably give it a chance before rushing to comment on the clique-ly nature of the students. I'm sure you'd find that wherever you go, people tend to form groups. It's human nature.

You need to step outside of your comfort zone and get to know people. There are many opportunities to get to know people you may never envision as your friend.

responseCincinnati, OH is THE shit. Best fucking city in the midwest. I've had more fun in Cincinnati then some places on the East coast… what the is this person talking about? You talk about how much UC is a bubble, but I think YOU'RE the only one in the bubble here.

People on campus are mad friendly. If you want to find friend, all you gotta do is join a club.

responseWow the education must be amazing at UC, I determined that after reading your brilliant response ^. It was well written, organized, and developed, you should definitely consider becoming an English professor!
