Most things that you read on Studentsreview should be taken with a huge grain of salt, because you have to remember that these are all OPINIONS, and you should make your own decisions when deciding a University for you.

But I can fully tell you that TAMUCC was a complete let down when it came to fulfilling what I desired in a school. I went through hours upon hours of research trying to decide which school I wanted to attend, and I believe that I got sucked into the surface beauty of TAMUCC, and have been left disappointed pretty quickly after that.

If you're wanting to go to a school where you can easily get by, simply do the reviews and not really touch a book otherwise, here's your school.

I made low B's in high school, and I've found myself making a 4.0 last semester. I went to a small, fairly crappy high school that most of the students could hardly speak english, and I feel that this university is less challenging than my AP courses.

First, if you're going to live on campus, be ready for the RIDICULOUS round-about way to pay rent. It's completely pathetic and makes no logical sense.

Second, all of the facilities are NEVER, EVER open. The "UC" where you get your food at has such inconvenient hours (it closes at 1pm on Friday. Seriously?) and the meal plans are a waste of time because you don't buy your food in meals, you just purchase each individual item by itself.

Third, the teachers here will make you memorize definitions, and expect nothing less than that. I've found very few instances where I've had to actually use my critical thinking skills to ace a test. Most teachers give reviews for the tests, which ironically look exactly like the test you're given on exam day…hmmm…

Fourth, You will not be challenged. Period. You can wait until the day before your test (which i'm currently doing right now, writing this review) and still make great grades on the test. I'd like to say i'm a pretty academically driven person, but shit, this is just a fucking cake walk.

Fifth, and probably the most important, you will be required to take a "triad" your first two semesters.

This works in what SEEMS like a very helpful technique, but it just makes you feel like you're in kindergarden again.

You have three classes that are linked together. You have your lecture class of choice (like history, psychology, government, etc) and then you have your english class in which you write about topics surrounding your lecture class (I wrote about all history related topics in english) and then you have the most wasteful 50 minutes of your life that "links" these two classes together.

Beware of UCCP, your freshman seminar class. It

helps the high school student make a smooth transition from high school to college and how to be efficient with their time management and coursework

BS. You might be like me and think that's a great thing for not-so-great-students that like to study and get the most out of their education, but it is seriously a waste of time. It's super early, you find yourself going in there and working in groups, and then at the end of the 50 minutes of hell, you get CANDY for working throughly in your groups.

Seriously. Half of the time I feel like i've reverted back to kindergarden and am having playtime before large lecture.

The only way that these "triad" classes work is if you have great teachers, which I had first semester. I only found this "triad" system helpful because I actaully gave a shit about my classes (I was about the only one in my class who did) and worked hard to find the connection. But if you 1) don't care to find that connection 2) have awful teachers (which WILL happen) you will find this UCCP class awful.

Sixth. Imagine student council at your high school. All the cool kids did it, they kinda slacked off but still made minimal efforts to get things done, and all hung around each other because it was the cool kid thing to do. That is our greek life. It's a complete waste of time, and it's just a bunch of drama and kinda lame parties. I swear, everywhere I turn someone is a greek, and you really are confused why that kind of person went greek. I personally went greek, and found it a huge waste of time and dropped.

Also, because every greek sorority/fraternity is required to do 5 or so study hours a week, they CONGEST the library's second floor. There's only one MINIATURE corner where it is a "silent" area, in which is still loud because the loud talking from all the greek students flood into that area, making it impossible to study.

So, if you want to socialize, go to the library. Not like anyone at this school studies anyways, it's such a cake walk that you can get by with not even touching a book.

Seventh. Don't be fooled by the "beautiful" TAMUCC campus. It gets ugly as hell before too long. If you like looking nice and having presentable hair, DON'T COME HERE. It feels like there is a hurricane about to drop down on this city any second, because winds average 30mph at all times.

You THINK the beach is across the street, but that beach is barricaded off so there is no actual wave production, and it's polluted and is pretty damn ugly. No one is EVER there. The beach that is actually legitimate is a 20 minute drive way, on The Island. So, if you think you can just walk to the beach from campus, you are highly wrong. The campus is INFESTED with cats, which I found kinda alright because they offered some entertainment when you weren't going to class because it was such a waste of time.

I also heard that the

Supplemental Instruction
(tutoring sessions for your lecture classes) program is losing its grant next semester, so they're going to cut that resource so tutoring is going to be a thing of the past. (I'm sure you can thank Rick Perry and Obama for that)

I've found that this school is kind of a commuter school. People just want to get to class, take notes, and get the heck off of campus. Way to really bring every one together. NOT.

My roommate is a nursing major, and she seems to be liking the nursing program. I know this school has a great nursing program (which I went to this school in the first place) but, don't take your pre-nursing here. Just transfer!!! It's what I wish I would've done.

The nursing program doesn't seem TOO challenging, but their NCLEX scores prove otherwise, so I guess I'd say it's a good program.

The only thing I can really say that I like about this campus is the fact that EVERYONE holds the door open for you. Not really open for conversation or even to be openminded to your ideas, but you can bet your bottom dollar the person in front of you will hold the door open for you.

So if you want to have the door held open for you at all times, come on over to TAMUCC. But if you want to feel like you're not wasting your time or your money, invest in another school.
