I am actually a post-bacc. non-degree student taking courses at UH Manoa for entrance into nursing school. I also attended a top-50 ranked college on the mainland and graduated with a bachelor's degree from that institute. Comparing my education here at UH Manoa with the mainland college I've attended, I would say that UH Manoa curriculum is just as good as any other "great" colleges on the mainland. I don't know why there are so may whining and griping messages trash-talking UH Manoa and our college. I in fact like my instructors for my Biochem, Organic Chem and Gen. Biology course, that I even regret going to the mainland for college and getting my first bachelor's degree. I will be honest though, that if you're looking for a fraternity or sorority type of college with all the hazing and partying, then UH Manoa is not the right college for you. The downside with some of the UH students is that they tend to work part-time to support themselves while attending college. This is totally different from the college I've attended on the mainland where students either got their tuition from mommy and daddy, got scholarships or received financial aid to support them through college. I've also noticed, even if I'm a local, is that students here tend to stick with their high school friends and form their own cliques. It doesn't matter to me, as I feel odd, as a 28 year old, hanging out with 19-22 year old students. But overall, my experience at UH Manoa has been positive so far. And the instructors I've had were very intelligent and kind enough to help me during their office hours.
