Ok look, Im starting off by saying that I'm giving this school a positive review, based on the fact that I would recommend it as a very good choice as a place to go for one year, and then head off to A&M College Station. This school has as amazing opportunity that presents itself to students in Texas that were not fortunate enough to get into either Texas A&M or UT through the top 10% rule that otherwise would have gotten in if the rule did not exist. Now on to what that amazing opportunity is. This school is actually considered part of the Main campus at College Station, thus if you choose to change campuses all you have to do is simply change your major to a major that only exists in A&M College Station like Engineering or Agriculture. Having said that.. Because the campus is considered part of the Main Campus at College Station, the academics are actually quite challenging and many that come here seem to be very surprised about that, seeing that many of the freshman drop out very quickly after the first semester has passed. This is not a blow off school, it is a school to prove yourself whether you want to move on to College Station or stay and study marine sciences.

Now moving on to an actual evaluation of the campus itself. The Social Life is all about what you make it, whether you are able to make friends and make the best of it or just sit in your dorm and complain the whole time you are there. The city is sorta ghetto yes, but you really do get used to it and realize that there is sort of a historical aspect to it. The Seawall is awesome with all the restaurants because you can just head down there with your friends and either go to the beach or have an ocean view while your eating. There is also the historical part of town they call the strand which is really cool especially at mardi gras. As i said before, the academics are great, getting to know your professors is a given, so there is really no excuse for not knowing what to be prepared for in a given class. People are somewhat friendly, but it really is a more competitive atmosphere where you would be better off finding a few good friends and sticking with that. The dorms are fine and are actually larger than some other schools dorms that I've seen. Fishing is great all around the island and especially out down by the Corps ship (called the Cape Gibson) right on pelican island where the campus itself is located.

Now unfortunately there are some extremely negative aspect's to this school I feel must be adressed. The Girl to Guy ratio is awful, there are about two guys for every girl, so the girls tend to grow extremely tired of being hit on/and or become extremely conceited due to that fact, so dont expect to find anyone dateable here, its mostly just hook ups. The School is extremely small, thus causing the same cliches you saw in high school to form and really alot of the same type of drama caused by that. It is possible to distance yourself from it, but it really does start to wear on you after a while, due to the fact that you literally see the same people over and over again that you are trying to avoid because of the small size of the school. Also the majority of students on the actual campus are freshman because as I said earlier, after their first year they either drop out or transfer out either because 1) They transfer to College Station 2) the harder than expected academics or 3) because of the high schoolish type drama that occurs here. The Cafeteria food also tends to deteriorate over the course of the year as they are not seemingly trying to attract people to attend the campus at that point in time. Also the hours that both the gym and library are open for dont tend to be as long as they should be. The school has alot of mosquitos when it's hot out, but for the better part of the year they tend to stay away. Finally alot of students tend to leave on the weekends, but it does seem to be to go somewhere with the people they met at the campus itself, so take it with a grain of salt.

Considering all of that, I've tried to be open minded about all of my experiences that I've had at A&M Galveston. I also knew a few students who fell in love with the place in their marine studies, so it really is all about what you want to do with your life. As for me, Im heading up to A&M College Station next semester and I highly recommend giving this place a shot especially if you have the same plan. I mean Cmon its by the Ocean haha.
