Having been in the professional world for a while now I can easily say that the degree from Michigan Tech is well worth it. The reputation of the school is very good and I've had no problem getting into graduate programs at much larger schools such as UofM. In industry, the MTU engineer is viewed as being more down-to-earth and practical than some other schools where they are more theoretical. The auto industry in particular is full of MTU grads although the graduates are now branching out into other fields like aerospace, which is where I'm now at.

I think one of the main traits of MTU is the fact that it is in such a remote location and this instills a sense of ruggedness and self-reliance that you can't get at a large, state university. You will get a very unique college experience. While all of your friends that went to the more normal state universities share the same stories, you will quickly realize that they never knew Winter Carnival, driving 10 hours for school, the close camaraderie with their classmates or the absolutely beautiful scenery of the Keewenaw peninsula and you see that it is an experience that can't be duplicated anywhere else.

MTU is a great place to build the foundation for your future career and also how you approach life.
