Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
BU really is a mixed bag. For what you pay, the facilities are quite nice. There were major, positive renovations every year I was there. I was particularly lucky to end up in a good department. Outside of my department, I have no major complaints about the professors I had for the gen eds and electives. While the facilities and faculty are great for the price, the environment is less than desirable. First, it is a drinking/party school. This is fine except, as mentioned in another post, the majority of the student body are from small towns. What's exciting to most of the people at Bloom is pretty boring to someone who's been around or lived in a larger area. Another issue is the quality of the classroom experience. They have capable faculty, but, as one professor lamented to me, they have to "play down to the room" - classes end up being a lot easier than they should be at the college level. (I should note this was also the case, to a slightly lesser extent, at the "respected" university from which I transferred.) Also, scheduling is god-awful. I've had to bribe seniors to hold spots for me. If not for Bloomin' Bagels pastrami sandwiches, I may have transferred. It's a good school if you're local or plan to transfer after a year or two…it's tolerable if you're going all the way.
