EMU is definitely not what people think- no buggies, no bonnets. Yet the people that go can come across as a bit "clique-ish" and closed-minded. If you're the hippie type with a white boy fro, you'll fit in fine. If you wear toms or have dreads, you'll be okay. Otherwise, it's a bit more difficult to fit in with the majority of the population. There are definitely people who think that a social scene is more than a cooking get-together or dutch blitz game, and the fact that JMU is extremely close is good for that. It's also good that one world can be academics (EMU) and the other social (JMU). Nevertheless, the professors are incredibly helpful and care deeply about education. At times, the peer students aren't as inquisitive and seemingly intelligent as I'd hoped- but that's the trend I think these days as practically every person attends college. The higher level courses improve in this aspect. The education itself is fantastic, I'd agree Ivy level. I think the social aspect of the school would improve greatly if a few thousand more students attended and they didn't accept every student that came from a Mennonite high school. The school is lacking a bit in diversity.
