Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is an outstanding school with a great reputation in engineering. For its location, it has a better than average social life, and between the school's activities, clubs, and societies and the Greek life present, there is enough to do. The education is the same as any engineering school or program because the material is the same. It is essentially universal knowledge. The school, however, excels with hands-on learning and involvement with team projects. There are also internships and work experience available to students on campus through the school.
One of the drawbacks is that the curriculum is difficult and there is a high-pressure environment as well. The expression is often used, and that is a pretty accurate representation of the atmosphere. In a given week, you can expect to work Monday through Friday on very difficult coursework before having a break for the weekend. It's important to have a positive attitude while you are attending Rose-Hulman because of the stress, and having supportive friends and family helps, too. There is no reason that I wouldn't choose to attend Rose-Hulman again if I were reconsidering the decision I made in high school. It's a place that taught me many things that I wouldn't have learned on my own, and I think the "Give 'em hell" attitude shows that it is a school that has spirit.
If you are looking for a school whose name will immediately be recognized jumping off of r?sum?s after graduating, then depending on where in the country you are and how involved in engineering you become, this might not be the right school for you. If you want an exceptional education and the tools and resources to build and understand complex systems, though, it is a great school to attend and certainly a place where you will meet like-minded people.
