Bard College at Simon's Rock is a place of incredible duality. You will find some of the worst, most self absorbed people you will ever meet against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful places a person can be. No matter how socially removed you are before coming here, you will make incredibly close friend groups that often toe the line between toxic codependence and ridiculously close knit

The administration cares almost exclusively about saving money and projecting a clear progressive image. The professors are nearly all wonderful but the bureaucratic support system and "therapists" offered to all students are not at all interested in supporting you. At this time, there is no on call nurse outside of the wellness center hours, a problem I was unaware until I was hospitalized and had to speak to a doctor on the phone instead of meeting with a nurse before going to the E.R.

I am transferring after one year here, small class sizes also mean small class selections and socially, this school is very much a bubble. As long as you have your g.e.d and a decent gpa, transferring nearly anywhere is relatively easy. (also, be aware that the first year dorms are almost comically awful and insanely expensive)

I don't regret my time here. Living on your own, especially as a young person inevitably leads to individual growth. About one year ago, I was desperately scouring these reviews, looking for ways to convince my parents to allow me to make the cross country move and to convince myself that it would be worth the high price tag. I am grateful to have received a number of need based and merit scholarships, however, I still spent more money than I probably should have.

If you despise high school, this is likely not the place for you, to be honest. Social hierarchies are inevitable with teenagers,I think. The added freedom is nice though. Everyone does drugs.

Good luck on your college quest, assumedly young review reader. Unless you fit a very specific, avant garde progressive and rich niche, I would not recommend you apply here.Bard College at Simon's Rock is almost certainly as flawed as your high school.
