Long story short, I hate going to Virginia Tech. I am a second semester freshman and am DYING to transfer. Unfortunately I was stupid and already signed a lease for an apartment, so I HAVE to go to VT at least one more year. But unless next year is a thousand times better than this year, I am transferring ASAP.

Firstly, I feel as if every single person I meet has the exact same personailty. Tech says they encourage diversity, but nothing could be further than the truth. It's just full of cookie-cutter students. I've tried talking to many people and everyone seems condescending and very snooty. If you're not in someone's sorority/fraternity then forget about being friends with them. Every girl wears leggings, Uggz, and huge sunglasses (yeah, they're THOSE girls) and I, being a girl myself, have really only made guy friends. But don't get me wrong, Tech has it's abundance of guys who are exactly alike (frat boys who are obsessed with drinking, and oh yeah, FOOTBALL).

As for things to do, unless you enjoy drinking and partying, or are over the age of 21, you're screwed. Blacksburg is seriously lacking in things to do, except for clubs, but like I said, you have to be 21. So pretty much, the only thing people under 21 do is get drunk at parties. Oh, and the only other thing people seem to care about is football. I think that's where most of our money goes. :P

Parking sucks. The two parking lots the residents park in are a VERY long walk from the dorms (which sucks in the winter…Blacksburg is notorious for it's hell-ish winters). Residents also have to accomodate for football fans during the football season (i.e. we have to move our cars from the nearer parking lot to the parking lot in the middle of no where, known as "The Cage"). I forgot to move my care once for a football game, and it was towed…AND I GOT A TICKET. You will get a ticket. It's inevitable. Everyone I know has gotten one for some reason or another. The parking police is out to get the students and visitors.

Also, if you don't like being a number or a statistic, don't come here. No one cares about you. There's thousands upon thousands of students. None of my professors know my name because each class has hundreds of students, except for labs which are taught by TA's (usually foreign and hard to understand).
I live in nearby Roanoke (which also has nothing to do) and have gone home every weekend because I hate VT sooooo much. I really wish I hadn't signed that lease so I could get OUT OF VIRGINIA TECH. I really cannot explain how much I hate it. Do your research before coming here. I'm transferring ASAP to another school to persue my passion; marine biology.

I mean hey man, you could always sublet your apartment to someone and then leave. Don't give up till you've explored all your options! Take it from a JMU grad who deeply, deeply regrets not transferring to william and mary while he had the chance. Believe me.

Just ask around, ask off campus life, ask the people who manage/own your apartment complex, see if there's anything you can do to get out of it; and if there is, start advertising to find a replacement roommate. I've never heard of someone being locked into staying at a college due to signing an apartment lease; I'm sure you can figure something out! :) And if you start right now you MIGHT be able to find somewhere to transfer to in the fall, but probably the spring is more likely this late in the game (or you could take a year off—STARTING in the fall, which will give you a whole first year instead of a first semester) might be better for acclimating yourself/meeting all new people.
