Date: Mar 07 2003
Major: Art & Design Department (This Major's Salary over time)
This school is the shittiest one I've seen but there might be some light at the end of the sphincter, er…tunnel. The President's Report for this Winter 2003 is focusing on branding Pratt as an outstanding institution. According to the Prez Schutte: "Pratt Institute enrolled 4,277 students in fall 2002, it's largest body since 1980". This means there was 121 more students than last year. This means there were 3,668 freshman, 1,018 transfers, and 1,646 graduates DUPED into coming here! Due to the decrease of international students and federal regulations Pratt has decided to redue their dependency on international students. Guess the fine folks of Thailand won't be seeing any advertisements for a half-assed education while eating at a McDonald's, such a shame! On 09/3/2002 Pratt recieved a transfer of $5,300,730 in securities from Yvonne Y. Atkinson Revocable trust. Pratt recv'd an Intial $990,297 from the Atkinson trust, making the total for undergraduate endowed scholarships $6,291,028. Pratt also "raised" $450,473 and received $32,622 from 151 donors (Murder Inc.s' maybe?)as annual fund "gifts." You mean to tell me they appraised all those fur coats and Lincoln Continentals? The Mellon Foundation invited pratt to submit a proposal for a $200,000 grant, designed to support 2 years of development for liberal arts and sciences faculty According to the President's Report the Comd Department has just recv'd a $125,00 grant from the Booth Ferris Foundation for the Imaging Center so that they may perchase "state-of-the-art technology hardware and software." This grant is the second from Booth Ferris in several years. God hoping they will utilize it properly and stop sitting on their hands! There will be an entrance pavilion built that will connect Steuben hall and Pratt Studios costing $1,500,900 or $324 per sqft. They're still haggling with the State Assembly requesting $1 million for the proposed Design Center. Considering Pratt's past administration misplacing money I wouldn't be surprised if they DON'T get it! Accd.to the report there will be glass walkways connecting the two buildings complete with a reception lobby, a student lounge, and art gallery on the second floor. The contruction is expected to begin this summer and last two years, just in time AFTER I graduate, niiice. The Pratt Art Supply and Bookstore is moving to a 15,000sqft. facility on the corner of Myrtle and Emerson Avenues and is expected to revitilize the area economically. They plan on marketing online and through direct mail and include an imaging center and cafe with lounge chairs on a mezzanine. The school of Architecture is getting their center building which burned down to the ground in 1996. The costs to build are est'd. @ $8,799,274 or $320 per sqft. recv'd a $67,000 NYSTAR grant to develop new tecnologies and manufacturing procedure in Architecture, whatever that means. After an audit by KPMG-Peat Marwick there was a total operating revenue of $93,350,807 and excess of revenues over expenses of $16,666,722. Pratt's total net assets for 2001-2002 were $131,844,432 and the year-end endowment was $33,735,000. According to Schutte: "The audit confirms fiscal 2001-2002 as an excellent financial year for Pratt." Yeah, now put your money where your mouth is and give all the students here better facilities! Speaking of which, $6.5 million in funds required for structural repairs on campus came from $3 milion in operating buget and the rest from last year's "surplus"? Hmmmm….Prez Schutte is so proud students account receivables have decreased unpaid accounts and he applauds the creation of new policies and proceedures preventing students with a balance of $500 or more from attending classes! Gee, and I thought it were the students with $5,000+ balances burdening Pratt all this time . You know, Pres. Schutte extolls the virtues of Pratt but we really don't see the improvements we all need to see in order to continue giving money to this school. Maybe he should fire all those rude, clueless motherfuckers who work in administrative positions for starters! For all you geeks out there: Industrial Light and Magic selected 3 Pratt students as finalists for that Matte painting apprenticeship. The largest number from any art and design school in the country. Dare to dream!
