SVA is a great school if you give it a chance. It's location is ideal, it's in the middle of NYC! Whomever said there's no nightlife is living in a dreamworld. Artists are an eclectic bunch and you tend to have both ends of the scale personality-wise. Some teachers/students think that they are the be-all and end-all in their field of study but most are open to new ideas and friendly. Classical techniques are emphasized all four years of each discipline, yet students are encouraged to find their own style during their sophomore year. The dorms are not the best out there. They are very small and can get somewhat depressing. Every school is what you make of it. If you want a degree from a great art school, I recommend you visit SVA. I really appreciate all the connections I came away with.
