Major: Undecided (This Major's Salary over time)
Academics: Small size means small classes and access to faculty is possible and encouraged. However, because of its small size there are limited teaching facutly. So, emphasis in many departments is on required courses and very limited electives offered. Course work often felt too easy and not particularly engaging. The students ARE smart (they got in..right?), but they seem to go through the motions. Do not be affraid to challenge your professors and ask questions! Or else you will not capitalize on your investment and best possible experience.Campus/Town: The campus is beautiful, no dobut. You better love brick, because there is a ton of it on this New England, grassy campus. Buildings and dorms are kept in fine condition. Be advised, housing has been an issue here (over enrollment), yielding much angst among the students. The dinning hall is by far, the trophy of the school's architecture. Saratoga is an active town with plenty of bars and shops, but more important in my opinion: great food! You'll be able to find something to do, at least you aren't in the middle of nowhere.Social Life: Students are mostly middle-upper class and the dominant ethnicity is White. Effort in recent years has been made to increase the school's diversity from 5-8%, but the international students tend to stem from the same upper socio-economic class. Student are nice, but most have lived very comfortable lives and the environment here does not challenge this fact. This is a safe place to spend your college years around moderate drinking and recreational substance use. Unfortunately, the students seem to do their school work, but only with the intention of getting to the next weekend, rather than for the intrinsic fun of learning. Personal Thoughts: Skidmore is a good school. I had the opportunity to try courses in many disciplines with mostly supportive and excited faculty and among friendly students. However, read my review carefully, because as with any place, there is good and bad.
