The University of Illinois - Springfield

I am a sophmore at UIS and as of now, would not reccomned friends or new freshman to apply to UIS.
There are a few things that turned me off after I was accepted into UIS. I was accepted very early, in October of my senior year, and got a good headstart on getting to know faculty and campus. I went for multiple tours and thought I knew what to expect come fall. The first bad experience I had was at orientation. I am not great at math and took a placement test. When I didnt do too hot on the test and got put in a 096 class, one of math profs badgered me about my low scores & made jokes with other advisors and profs about the low class I was put in.

Secondly, most of the gen ed classes i NEEDED were full by the second registration (2nd of 6) and was put into classes that didnt statisfy requirements.

Thirdly, once in school and living on campus, I quickly learned that all activites that are offered to students are stopped immedietly once move-in and and parents are gone. Faculty and student groups promise year-round events and activites, lie. After September, there is nothing to do.As for the students... I live an hour south of Springfield in a town of 5500. At least 2/3 of the students are from Chicago/Chicago Area and treat the other students like lower class because of the culture differences. The students from Chicago "gang" up and act as though they run the school and think they are better than the other students. I am not holding the actions of the students from Chicago to the integrity of the school, but this is another (large) portion of UIS that I don't care for.
