The University of Louisiana - Lafayette

I love the school but it does not offer any classes on the computer programs i need to know. we have to learn then on our own time and form other classmates!

I'm from Slidell, LA. I graduated in 2008. I decided to go to UL because it has a great nursing program. What's great about ULL is there's always something to do. The student body is always putting some kind of event on. UL is in the heart of cajun country and the people here are so friendly and hospitable. One of the greatest perks would have to be that UL is one of the most affordable colleges in the nation. Fall 2010 in-state tuition was only $2,213 while out of state was $6,499. With LA tops, scholarships, and grants school is practically free for me! A negative aspect of UL would definitely be parking. You either have to take the UL buses which are overcrowded and take forever, pay hundreds of dollars every semester for a parking spot that takes 10 minutes to walk to campus, or pay a dollar an hour at one of the parking lots/garages on campus. My advice would be to live close to campus and just walk or ride your bike to school. This school is known for computer sciences, our outstanding biology department, engineering, nursing and business. One other con would be the dorms. They are very old and need to be revamped but fortunately are in the process of this. But if your a boy, beware of the Stokes dorm. I've heard its comparable to the projects. We also have Legacy park which is brand new apartments on campus for a heftier price but the waiting list for that is ridiculous. Let's just say UL is not a "dorm" school. Its not mandatory to stay in a dorm freshmen year so most don't but there are many affordable college apartments off campus. All around I love UL. What's most important is the academics are legit. I'm proud to say i'm a Rajun Cajun ;)
