I graduated w/ an exercise science degree in 99. I was pleased w/ the experience and they did prepare me well to do a good job in my field. In early 2009, I decided to get my masters in History, and I feel as though I have been ripped off by a used car dealership. I have taken 4 History classes, and only one; Dr Mary Lions-Behrent's late American History was satisfactory. I believe, we, the students have to be specific in naming the professors that are not doing their job. Dr Garver and Dr Delmont are all over the place and teach on subjects that they like and do not cover the material.
In Dr Delmont's British History class, I documented the lecture and in 75 mintues of class he taught British H for a total of 15 minutes. Other subjects during the lecture were American presidents, Obama bashing, communism. The most alarming thing is that during the past few lectures he has firmly preached that the US should bomb N Korea, Iran, and Columbia. I am 35 yo and have the ability to think for myself, but I look around the young class and am worried that younger students will accept his horrible opinions as they own. Dr Pollack is rude, boring, and unhelpful. I am asking for help, but instead have been forced to listen to boring stories on cooking. Buttom-line is that some professors are not performing their duty and we are getting ripped off.

I really wouldn't come to UNO if you want a college campus full of spirit. UNO advertises how everyone is "Go Mavs," but that couldn't be further from the truth. No one cares about the teams besides a small number that go to the football and hockey games. No one cares about life outside of class, so it's hard to make friends or really get involved in activities, or to find out what activities there are to get involved in. That's probably what I dislike most about UNO: there just isn't any warmness to the school. It's cold, distant and pretty closed off.
The academic program is okay, but it isn't anything overly challenging and you are surrounded by students who don't care that much about learning. Add to the fact most of the professors are arrogant and unhelpful and UNO feels like advanced high school instead of college.
Omaha isn't a fun place. It doesn't have any kind of college-town feel(Austin, Boulder, Madison, etc.) or urban-city vibe (L.A., D.C., Chicago, N.Y.C., etc.) It's kind of a quiet, boring place with lots of families and yuppie Creighton students that act like tools. The Old Market gets old after a while, as does dinner/bowling/movies/drinking .I'm transferring to a smaller, liberal arts college in Chicago next semester, but I think UNO is a good fit if you want to get your degree and don't want or need the other parts of college life.

I read with interests the comments as well, and I must say that I agree more so with the negative comments than I do the positive ones. UNO built a beautiful computer science building back in the late 90's and up until the early 2000's it was a great program. That's not the case anymore. The building is staffed with adjunct professors and the career opportunities are nothing more than temp jobs that really don't lead to much else. It's too bad, because the outside aesthetic would lead you to believe the school to be a great place, but it really isn't anymore.
