I'm a transfer student and have been hereQuite BrightOther
I'm a transfer student and have been here a little over a month. the people are friendly, the teachers are very helpful, when you can find them, but i find that email works best. come here if you want a solid education, don't come here if you expect to be doing kegstands at 12 am on a wednesday night. it tends to be a little unsocial due to the fact that there are many commuters and many people go home on weekends and most of the campus is immersed in study 101% of the time, or rather i am. but the people here are pretty damn cool, lots of interesting people all over the place, it's very diverse and there is never a lack of creative energy in the air.

Question
Stony Brook is a great school if youBrightPhysics
Stony Brook is a great school if you intend on doing nothing but studying. The academic programs are great, but the social life is nearly non-existant. And don't let them trick you by saying it's "a train ride away" from NYC. Also, the campus is pretty disgusting, although it seems they are slowly improving it.

Question
One of the most appealing qualities of StonyAverageBusiness - Management and Administration
One of the most appealing qualities of Stony Brook is the diversity on campus. But take that away and you've got nothing. The school spirit is at an all time low all the time. No one attends social activities. Close to 95% of the on campus residents go home every freaking weekend. You see them pack onto the trains every friday afternoon anxiously to get out of this lifeless campus. Weekends are obviously boring here. Walk on to campus on a saturday afternoon and you'll be surprised to find 2 people walking on this 1000+ acre campus. The workload here ranges from average to very hard depending on the major you're in. Alot of students that go here are extremely bright...and believe me when I say that...while some people are just plain dumbasses that lack common sense and then some. For the amount of work that people here put in, we don't get the recognition that we deserve. It will be hard for you to make friends here if you do not know anyone. Some professors are really helpful but most tenured professors are just lazy and waiting for retirement.
