Moravian College

The faculty is generally helpful (except for my freshman year, non-major advisor) and I feel comfortable talking to any faculty in my major department. They are very friendly and go beyond just course work to help their students. Clubs here often meet at odd times, which bothers me as I always miss half of my favorite club because it is during lunchtime and overlaps one of my classes. The fitness and wellness class is a useless joke. By the time someone is 18, they should know that exercise and sleep are good, booze and grease are bad.

Looking back, I should not have applied early decision. Maybe I'm being arrogant like the majority of the school, but I sometimes feel as if they need me more than I need them. Especially since I applied early they essentially swept any possible scholarships under the rug. I am getting the low end of an easily-attainable scholarship even though compared to my classmates' extracurriculars and classes from high school I could possibly get at least half tuition. During tours and the admission process (especially acceptance and financial aid), sports are highly stressed. It's fine if you don't play a sport, but expect to be dropped into the wilderness as far as the many cliques go. There are three fraternities and they all are sorry examples of groups. They are hardly scholastic or social and prey upon anyone who would even consider rushing.Had I still decided to come to Moravian, I would have applied for South housing (even though I have no classes there). Since it's a suitcase school full of locals, the majority of people show up for orientation with a full posse of friends. That really chapped me because I was hoping everyone would be as lost and expectant as I was. I do enjoy the company of my friends, although I can't say I have many, even almost three months in. I am excelling in the simple required Learning in Common classes, but they won't let me officially declare my major and start living. If you live locally or are INCREDIBLY outgoing so you can jump into pre-formed cliques, consider this school. If you want a very small school and want to make many friends through your sport of choice, consider this school. If you want open-minded, diverse and friendly people, look elsewhere.
