So so many others have said this butFeb 11 2018Psychology
So so many others have said this but it bears repeating; RUN AWAY. I got sucked in because of the bargain basement price, but that's the problem - this *is* the Walmart of schools. So sure the price is great, but the quality? My god there is so much incompetence here on both the administrative side and the faculty side. There is one decent professor, one evil professor (defensive, vindictive, unprofessional and Dunning-Kruger Effect full on), and the rest are nice but bumbling dopes who are phoning it in. There is no support, no interaction, no professional development. Oh and Lamar's NCE pass rate is 53%!! Terrible program, I'm seriously considering transferring. I don't want to have to pay an extra $250 per credit hour to attend the next cheapest school, but maybe my sanity is worth that price.
Question
I attend Lamar as an online graduate studentDec 08 2014Education
I attend Lamar as an online graduate student. I was drawn to the program because it is cheaper than local universities and they offer 5 week classes. I signed up for a program that would allow me to complete my master's in education in 18 months, which sounded great! I figured that I would be finished in four semesters, including one summer semester. At first, I was so pleased I had found this program. Now I wish I had never heard of it! Please no not go here! First, I was signed up for the wrong class, unbeknownst to me until the class was almost over. We can't register ourselves, so this was completely the fault of the University. That means I wasted 900 dollars on a class I didn't need for my program. I moved on from this incident, thinking I at least would graduate in the same semester. However, this week, I got a "friendly heads up" from the admissions department informing me that the last two classes I need will not be offered until three semesters from now, meaning I will graduate a full 6 months later than planned, and I have to just "sit out" Spring and Summer semesters waiting for my classes to come back in the Fall. This is completely unbelievable. The university did not even apologize or do anything to make up for this huge error on their part. Of course I would have never singed up for this program if I had realized that it would actually take 2.5 years, and not 18 months as originally advertised. Even if I had not been signed up for the wrong class, I would still have this same issue as the last class I would need would not be offered until 3 semesters from now either. This university is completely unprofessional, and there is nothing that I can do about it now since I've wasted thousands of dollars and am only two classes away from graduation. I can only hope that I can help others not get sucked in by false promises like I did.
