Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I am pleased with my experiences at OldQuite BrightAccounting
I am pleased with my experiences at Old Dominion, and believe the people who don't like it should have done a better job researching the school before attending. Why go to a school without the program you wanted? That is not the school's fault, that is your fault. You didn't do your due diligence and have no one but yourselves to blame. As for safety, I've never felt unsafe. You just need to be smart; Go out with friends, call a cab or use the safe ride program the school provides. If you're smart and self-aware, you should never feel unsafe at ODU.

Question
I transferred to ODU from TCC last year.BrightAccounting
I transferred to ODU from TCC last year. Most of my classes didn't transfer so I now have to retake them even though the course descriptions are identical word for word. It is a nightmare trying to get ahold of anybody, nobody in the offices answers the phone and if they do the person you are trying to contact is never there.

The counselors don't care about your success, they just want you to go to ODU as long as possible. They will tell you to take classes that don't even apply to your major and then those classes won't even count as credits. When you schedule a meeting with a counselor they are always trying to rush you out the door.

My first semester I took out a loan at ODU and they didn't tell me they weren't going to automatically apply it towards my tuition, instead they let me go months without even notifying me of having not paid my tuition. They had already slapped on a bunch of fees before the time I finally got an e-mail from the school letting me know I had not paid my tuition. Now I owe them considerably more than my original amount. The campus is extremely unsafe, I fear for my life every time I have to walk to my car after a night class. Campus security is usually nowhere to be found even though they "beefed up" security earlier this year. I am constantly getting e-mails from the school about people getting robbed on campus or nearby. The only reason I am still at ODU is because I have a lease on my apartment and I am almost finished with my degree.

Question
ODU needs to have its accreditation revoked.Quite BrightAccounting
ODU needs to have its accreditation revoked. It's an all-around bad school and a bad learning environment, especially seeing as people are now being shot and killed on campus and in classroom buildings by seedy locals, drug dealers, and gang members who are all strongly attracted to the presence of increased numbers of middle to upper class students who have lots of stuff for them to steal (and kill for). This environment is found all over southeastern Virginia (except for in the exclusive, wealthy places, of course). The construction of new buildings and facilities, the formation of a football team, and the admission of huge numbers of underachieving students have done nothing to make ODU a safer or more attractive place. Incompetent professors and a childish student body round out the list of things to hate about this school.
