I didn't realize how great Grand Valley was until I graduated. Allendale might not be too exciting, but get involved with something (greek life, campus organizations) and there is a lot of fun to be had. The place is amazing, people are extremely friendly… just visit you'll see what i'm talking about. 20 minutes from Grand Rapids, 20 minutes from Lake Michigan… can't beat that!
