In general, Brandeis was a great place to go for undergrad—the perfect blend of a university and liberal arts college. Don't expect it to give you practical preparation for a career, although it definitely has a great reputation in getting students into grad school. Classes were small and professors were caring. There was more competition among pre-meds than other students. There was tension between Jewish students and minority students about whether the university should maintain its Jewish roots or become a truly diverse university which sometimes got nasty. But in general, the atmosphere was quite liberal and tolerant. The extracurricular activities are wonderful during the week, but Waltham is hardly a college town—it is a very blue-collar community. But the close proximity to Boston made up for that on the weekends.
