Major: Geography and Geosciences (This Major's Salary over time)
I really regret choosing the University of Akron for graduate work. The university has 2 computer labs with like, 10 computers in them, which you can never use. The computers at the library are usually broken. I tried to use the ZIPlink library electronic card catalog yesterday and all 3 terminals were inoperable. It took me 20 minutes to look up the call number of a book.I have been going back and forth between Kent State and the public library to do my research, but it is really a pain in the ass, and a deplorable situation. Other students I know go to libraries in Cleveland or wherever they can. The attitude of the University is that everything is great! and the administration is patting each other on the back for what a great job the are claiming to have done… meanwhile, I can't even make a f*cking photocopy of a periodical because all of the copy machines in the library are f*cking BROKEN!If I would have known it would be like this, I wouldn't have considered coming here, but who can know that the state of things at a research university could be this bad?The attitude in my department of faculty members is better, but at times I feel like I'm on a sinking ship. It seems there is a hiring freeze, yet faculty are retiring and not being replaced. I am LITERALLY registered for 3 courses with the same adjunct teacher because THAT IS WHAT IS OFFERED. I do not recommend to anyone to come to the University of Akron. It will be a catastrophic waste of your time. Go anywhere else but here.
