Major: School of Information (This Major's Salary over time)
I am majoring in Management Information Systems. I will graduating after I finish this one last class. I have never operated a server, or a router. I have no knowledge of SAS or Oracle. I do have a hyper-generalized idea of Mangement Information Systems though. I wish the computer programming department would get past the 1960's (i.e. we are taught to program with vi as an editor) this is probably due to tenured faculty in their 60's. However, they will help you to no end if you go during office hours with well directed problems to solve. Also, we never have those classes where you have to debate and support your thoughts (except for business law). There are no real world case studies (which I love). It is like you get a lot of equations (standard deviation, EVA, signal to noise ratio etc.), but the big picture is not discussed. Things like globalization, business culture, news that is class related are not discussed. I have this ungrounded feeling. I have this degree, but I don't feel like I know anything. I have all my books, I review them from time to time, but it seems like this has all been a game. That this is some scholastic fiction, a behavioral conditioning so that I can be put in some box and do what I am told (this is probably more me because none of the other students seem to say anything correlating to this - I don't know). Anyway, I'm graduating…
