Vanderbilt is a great—but not perfect—school. It's certainly not for everyone, but should be very seriously considered by any student who is interested in a great education that will prepare them to be successful, both monetarily and otherwise, in their life after college.

The university environment is a challenging one. All students here are bright and motivated, and almost all were at the top of their high school classes. The admissions standards, always high, have been continually rising over the last few years; in fact, many of the students that would have gotten scholarships five years ago might be marginal for admission now. Students are competitive, but not necessarily just about academics. The social scene is extremely competitive, and since many of the students here come from very wealthy backgrounds, there is always competition to dress well, look good, and party hard. Vandy is certainly not for the faint of heart.

That said, the amount of diversity on campus has greatly increased as of late, and there really is a niche for almost every type of person if you try to find it. If you come to Vandy wanting to succeed, you can—you just have to work for it, becuase everyone else is just as hungry for success as you are.
