Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
This school is absolutely amazing though it does have some minor downfalls. Academically: The student body is Uber-competitive. Friends at other schools will laugh at your grades while bragging about spending a fraction of the time studying at their half-ass institution. This applies to everyone, don't think that just because Michigan is your second choice you're exempt from the four years of study and…study. Some people have mentioned reverse racism and it's something I haven't noticed, though I am liberal. However, almost all of my friends consider themselves conservative and with the exception of one, they have expressed no problems with previously mentioned "racism". If your political views are solid and have a good foundation I don't think it's such a big problem.Socially: If you want to party every day or nearly every day, you can. I do. Socially Michigan is completely what you make of it and I can't stress that enough. A lot of people rush Frats, a lot of people end up finding their best friends live next door to them in the dorms. Then there are a lot of people who are afraid to take that initiative and end up very lonely and homesick. My advice, no matter where you go, is to be uninhibited and non-judgmental. When you see someone you want to meet, meet them. When you meet someone that you don't especially like, give them a second chance.Others:Athletics are top notch here. You really have to experience a come from behind win in The Big House. I think it's a graduation requirement. Yost is bar none the BEST home field/ice advantage in the country. The NCAA recently started censoring our cheers.Negatives: Weather - we're one of the northern most states, what do you expect?Being a number - It's easy to let this happen at any big school but it's also easy to get involved. The best advice I got on this is that Academics - I hate studying, but it's necessary. No getting around it. The upside is that when exams are over everyone's ready to have a big F*ing party. Oh yeah, you get a degree if you can stick around long enough too.Good Luck and GO BLUE!
