Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
George Washington is simply not worth the huge amount of money it costs.Professors are well-known in their fields, it's true, but teaching and responding to students is not a priority for many of them. It's a struggle to get an answer to an email, a recommendation, an appointment. Guidance is haphazard and rife with misinformation and poor advice, when you can get the attention of your advisor. Academically, it's not a scholarly atmosphere. The library facillity is woefully inadequate, and fellow students (mostly from NY or NJ) seem more concerned with fashion than with learning. The food plan is really ghastly. At first it seems like a very flexible plan with a lot of choices. But it's difficult to get a nutritious meal at a decent price here. The university has provided a host of fast food restaurants with a captive market of students—bad selection, unhealthy food, poor hours, and high prices abound. Students who want to be in or near DC can do much better at another area school. I would suggest an overnight visit for any prospective student. Your eyes will be opened.
