Social life: Of course anyone can find SOME friends at college, whether they go to Hampshire or Hillsdale, there will be someone that they can relate to, but it is important to know ahead of time what the overall culture of a school is before you attend. I know this now. During the college application process I was way too wrapped up in prestige, location, etc. and I was not really thinking about the kinds of people I would be living with EVERY day! As a result I now live at a school where being pretty and thin is paramount. Whatever it takes to be those things, these girls will do it. Because the surface of things, and how they look, is so important, many of the more "ugly" things that go on here are just not common knowledge.

Academics:Ironically, I have found that there is way too much busy work. Yes, we play hard (yes we do!) and we work hard, but it is not hard work, just a lot of it. I don't feel that I am getting as good an education as I expected too and that worries me in terms of the GRE's and graduate school. Also, no one I know in the North has ever heard of Vanderbilt, so I am constantly having to explain where and what it is. So far, I would really recommend that you try to get some honest information before you come here, so you know what you are really getting in to.
