I am definitely a current student and I have some words of warning. Rush just ended about a week and a half ago and I feel like I am doomed to a gloomy three and a half more years. I, and several of my friends, got in to sororities that we are not happy about at all! The social life here is so dependent upon the Greek system that joining feels like our only real option. Now, you could say that this is true at any school that has a large Greek system, but I do feel that my situation is somewhat specific to Vanderbilt and it's population. The top tier sororities are filled with Texas debutantes—REALLY wealthy (and yes, of course, the everpresent Vandy adjective, GORGEOUS) southern girls. If you are not one of those, don't even think about it. It is so much worse than high school here in terms of cliquey-ness and whether one is "in" or "out." Academically, HOD sucks, the classes I have to take for it are SO stupid. I have had a couple of good professors though.
