Most of the people that come here, do so for the generous funding. Most happen to be local residents and commuters.

If you're hoping to make academia your career, then stay away. If you simply want to learn a bit about a new field, or go through the motions for a degree, then go ahead and apply.

Some departments are legitimately interested in academic endeavors and upwards mobility. Most, however, are mediocre, disenchanted, underpaid, bitter "teachers".
