Furman overall is a good school, and it has a pretty campus. You get a quality education, and the faculty are great. I had great professors - they are very nice people and even though the classes are tough, they want you to succeed. The dining hall and Paladin is pretty nice, but don't eat at the Dining hall on the weekend because the food is 2 days old.

The school focuses a lot on "Engaged Learning," and I would reccommend taking full advantage of any internships/research positions offered, and do mock interviews/job fairs/resume reviews that career services offers. While a lot of students are very competitive about grades, it is the experience that is more important. Since it's a liberal arts school, it prepares you more for graduate school than the real world. If you do not plan to attend graduate school, hands on experience is absolutely crucial.

Another issue of warning is the student population. While Furman is trying to improve the diversity issue, "different" perspectives and people are few and far between in this WASPs nest. I was an agnostic democrat when I was a student there, and I made some great friends. Word of warning, the dating scene is absolutely non-existent. People don't date, they get engaged. There are also way many more females to males than the statistics report (in upper level classes in my major, there were often no men). And the vast majority of guys were either good old southern frat boys or closet-gays who put off the facade of being good Christian boys who wanted to wait til marriage. Don't be openly gay at Furman - the student body is very conservative and will persecute you if you are (or tell you you are going to hell). They do have a student alliance for those who are not of the heterosexual orientation.
