Major: Nutrition (This Major's Salary over time)
The Nutrition Management program @ RIT is a joke. You dont have a single class with the program directors/advisors untill the last year and it is literally up to them to decide your future. What many of us grads didnt realize when we first started in this major is that in order to become a registered dietitian, you have to land an internship after you graduate. To do so, you have to have letters of recommendation written from these two people (whom you meet in the last year) and include them in the application. The internship is not something you can do locally. You have to go through the American dietetic associations internship list. The closest internship is in buffalo, NY. The internships range from 6 months to 3 years and GET THIS - we have to pay for them! They range from a small stipend to 30K. Most are atleast 10K. The internships are also extremely competetive - too few internships to applicants. And the letters from your professors are key.

When you first meet with the RIT program directors (pre-admission) to talk about the program (RIT) they fail to mention all of this information. They talked about getting an internship but never stated these facts. I assumed they meant I could intern at parkridge or strong. On top of this you still must get the 4 coops.

Everything was awesome for the me up untill my last year at RIT. When I first started taking medical nutrition therapy. Yup, we waited untill the very last year to dive into this very important subject. Anyhow, this professor is evil. Please note that I do not take this name lightly. I am a damn hard worker and love to be challenged (educationally) But it really felt like she wanted her students to fail. She would seriously examine eveything we did to try to find ways to take off points from assignments and exams and anything else. In my last semester I couldnt make it to class and had to email her a case study that took me atleast 15 hours to complete. It was only worth 50 points too by the way. This is the kind of ridiculous amount of work she assigned for little points. So anyhow, I emailed her the case study. It was over a break. She emailed me about 4 days later saying she couldnt open my file but told me to bring in a hard copy into the next class. When I recieved my paper back, I recieved a 10/50 on the assignment! She written on it that it was over 5 days late and took off 40 points for it being so late. I was furious. If she didnt try to open it 4 days after i sent it to her, i could have resent it to her right away and it would have been fine. But she decided to be a c nt and basically give me a zero on it. I have also heard from previous grads that she writes really negative comments on the letters of applications for the internships. There is a section that asks if they recomend the student for an internship. For several of last years grads she has checked the box that states "WOULD NOT RECOMMEND" This means no internship, no future as a dietitian. If I were you I would not go to RIT for NUTRITION MANAGEMENT. RUN. This is a cold environment where you really feel almost scared to talk with them for fear of judgemnt. One of my fellow grads was planning a wedding during this whole process and this c nt basically told her she was making a mistake getting married and dont bother asking her for a letter of recommendation. They dont stay out of your personal life and are nosy bitches. Very judgmental and caddy. This is not medical school but they act like it is. How is this medical school liz when your office is directly across from a kitchen? Get a clue

Responses
responseThis is very accurate picture of what I went through several years ago. The professors were really condescending and arrogant.
