I have read previous reviews about Jackson State University in StudentsReview and everyone is entitled to their own perspective review. This is my experience, my first few years were littered with negative feedback from professors because I wasn't doing my part to get the best experience I could have and partly because they just werent very encouraging. Keep in mind, this is maybe two or three professors out of hundreds. But once I was motivated and joined the Physics department, my eyes were opened. I had a faculty and staff that cared about my development as a Physicist. They implant in you that you can create and achieve any goal/purpose that you want.

This department exposes many to great research as well as opportunities outside of the university. I personally have done research projects at UC Berkeley, Cornell University and Carnegie Mellon University. There were also many other opportunities to conduct research throughout industry (i.e. Northrop Grumman, Corning Inc.) and present them at conference throughout the country. These experiences are not known to many undergraduate students. You get the feeling that this research and experiences are about your personal development.

Students throughout the University are pretty friendly. You run into a lot of Southern Hospitality friendliness as well as student from all around the world. Majority of students are either from the Midwest and Southern states which makes for an interesting mix. A small but growing amount of students are coming from around the world, many are from African and Asian countries.

Jackson State University does have a good bit to work on such as the friendliness of the financial aid/services department. The people in the community can be close-minded at sometimes, which is a setback for the university's success in competing with the nations prestigious universities. The president of the university would like to make the university graduate student friendly and bring in more college student social and shopping venues. Overall, this university is a great place for people to learn and become very competitive in your field of interest.
