I am writing to WARN the students considering this school.I do not mean to be over critical, however I am going to give the advice I wish I had seen before coming here. The majority of the students here are either A)Hippies B)Druggies C) Preppy D) Anywhere in between. Everyone here worked relatively hard in HS, receiving an average 3.7 gpa for the most part. People here are pretty chill, however, mostly in their own world. Its sad that the majority of people you meet here, because the campus is so spread out, you never get to talk to again. Its hard to foster friendships as well because of this. The classes are a bit mundane. The work can be tedious and boring. The clubs are lacking here as well, theres a lot of clubs, just a lack of real variety. And they make it so you cant take music classes unless you declare a major or minor. This makes it frustrating for those who just want to have fun.Transportation here is horrible. Yeah, theres buses, but they hardly run on the weekends and when they do theyre almost always full. Hitchiking is second nature here. The school honestly feels like its not with the real world. I feel like Im stuck in the 60s here, with the pot and Jimi Hendrix everywhere…not that theres anything wrong with Jimi, just, there arent many people into metal music…Oh and the college system here SUCKS. Everyone seems like theyre more commited to being part of there individual college then UCSC.If youre republican, well, just save yourself the money and dont come here. 99 percent of the school is liberal.Im transferring, because despite my love of the trees, atmosphere and down to earth people, I cant stand it here.
