| DO NOT TRANSFER INTO THIS SCHOOL. I attended a different university
my freshman year, and coming to BU my sophomore year
was the worst decision I ever made. The school puts
all the transfers together, which is somewhat helpful, but it
is nearly impossible to make friends with students that started
BU their freshman year. This is because students tend to
be snooty, cold, and rude about making new friends, and
in general I have found the students at BU to
be ridiculously socially awkward and boring personality wise. I am
a very social and outgoing person, but after a year
of putting in my best effort to make friends, I
eventually became very discouraged and just gave up. I have
a good small group of friends, but I really don't
understand the attitude kids seem to have here about being
above everyone else, maybe because they need to brag about
their money or maybe they really just don't have any
social skills? I find a lot of the kids here
to be really immature too. It's kind of like talking
to 9th graders sometimes. So weird Anyway, BU is
also terrible at helping you find a major, at least
in CAS. I have been through like 4 majors just
because the guidance counselors are virtually absent/don't have any advice,
and therefore you end up wasting a lot of time
and pouring more money into the money-minded business that is
BU. I have found a lot of my teachers pretty
uninspiring, and BU is obviously trying to pose as a
better school than it actually is by giving a ridiculous
amount of useless busy work that really only serves to
overwhelm you. I feel like I have learned very little
from my classes except how to rush through work so
I can go to bed at a decent hour. Grade
deflation is very obviously occurring as well. A's are very
rare unless you literally devote every waking moment to your
school work and write of being social all together. It's
pretty disheartening and does not give confidence to students at
all. The social life is a bust too. BU
has a ton of bizarre rules that end up treating
students like babies that can't take care of themselves. They
even tell you at orientation that if your friend passes
out at a party and you call an ambulance, that
you might get in trouble with BU for being at
a party. What the hell, BU? Also, the parties here
SUCK. Most are put on by frats and they pretty
much get old after the first semester of being here.
Smaller off campus parties are better, but honestly, its worth
getting a really good fake and just asking 21+ kids
which are the easier bars/clubs to get into. Boston is
really tight on IDing though, so you will probably lose
your first 2 or 3 IDs...which is quite an investment.
Anyway, my experience here might just be terrible because I'm
a transfer, but I had really high hopes for the
school being a fun, interesting, open-minded, and diverse place, and
it is really none of those things. It's really just
expensive, arrogant, self- righteous, boring, and for some reason harbors
a bunch of social weirdos. To each his own I
guess, but if you want to have a fun time
at college, and also feel like you are learning information
that will stay with you, and that is meaningful, well,
then I simply do not recommend BU.
