I'm not a student at the college in the traditional sense; what I mean is that I'm a student with the Middle College. Even THEY talk it up, and they're not even trying to get your money! Anyway, about the school. G'boro College is INCREDIBLY dirty in general. Paint is peeling off the walls, the bathrooms constantly reek of chemicals (never feces or urine-it's always some purple chunk of disgusting yuck), some of the classrooms are ridiculously small (but I suppose that's good because it controls class sizes. The con is that they're sort of claustrophobic and definitely not something you expect if you're going for the 'college experience'). The food isn't AWFUL, but yeah, leftovers seem pretty common and I don't think that the caf staff speak English. o-o And at the very least, you have Tate street within walking distance to fall back on for the days where the fare is less than tolerable.

Not that this should influence your decision much…but if you'd like to know, there really aren't any attractive people here, male or female. A good majority of the students are significantly overweight, which is normal for Americans but eh, not really desirable imo (I'm not shallow-many students are a good 50+ lbs over…which is actually quite heavy). Hardly any of the females put effort into their daily attire; the vast majority come to class in sweats & a sweatshirt and with their hair in a ponytail/hairband combo. It gets really old really fast and makes the whole campus seem a lot smaller (haha, since apparently that's possible…) and less diverse because everyone looks the same. D:

The teachers aren't exceptional, but the ones I've had are pretty decent. Dan Seaman is probably one you should avoid if you dislike condescending, arsty-fartsy liberals. Dr. Brotherton is a good teacher, but he had a lot of expectations and standards he wanted met even as the semester was just starting. Benji Springs is an okay band director but a fantastic trumpet player; he's more of a person to be observed if you're serious about music rather than to take instruction from if you're just in band for fun. My Calculus teacher, Prof. Pennell, is an exception; he's fantastic. He doesn't necessarily teach in the style that I'm compatible with, but he's immensely helpful and reassuring in spite of the fact that mathematics aren't my strong suit. He's Christian, which I had initially suspected and was a bonus for me, but I didn't actually have that verified until I visited him during his office hours one day and noticed a Bible verse on his wall (he doesn't mention his beliefs in class, so if you're averse to religion, don't worry about having a debate about it with him). He's got a really clear voice and is easy to listen to. One of the things I'd have to say I disliked about him was that he didn't really ever get off-topic or go on tangents (no pun intended) and you'd often sit in his class listening to straight Calc for the full hour and thirty-minute period.

Also, be prepared for bratty High School juniors with the Middle College. A lot of the applicants admitted were worse than last year's batch, and I anticipate that it will only decline from there…

Overall, I can't say that I HATE the college, but being in the Middle College certainly made my experience suck a whole lot more because we have a crap principal. But that's another story for another time. ;3 Anyway, I'd say that the college is too pricey for the lack of aesthetic value…and that if you're looking for a real college experience with a wider variety of people, you'd best look elsewhere. The school is fine if you're purely academic/sports oriented and your social life/level of health isn't an issue. Also, the maintenance of the grass/trees is pretty nice. But there aren't many flower patches and a lot of the concrete has broken in several places. Though they did just put in some new sidewalks, so hopefully that's a good sign for the future of GC to come…
