Major: Natural Resources (This Major's Salary over time)
I'm from the north east and transfered to WCU for my junior and senior years. I don't think I could have made a better choice. While it took some adjustment to go from large cities to the small town of Cullowhee, I'd do it again in heartbeat. The friends I made there have become family to me and even some of the professors.

The Natural Resource Conservation & Management program offers both indoor and outdoor learning experiences. You're generally outside just as much as you are inside once you get into the core classes. The professors in the department are fantastic. They challenge you, encourage you, and are always available for support. There is one tough cookie in group and you'll figure out which one it is pretty quickly. This is not an easy major, expect to do work inside and outside of the classroom. I spent much of my final semester in the library or lab working on research papers, but I also went to Raleigh to present at a conference and spent two weeks in Argentina & Brazil collecting field data and participating in workshops for a class. You will work hard in this program but you'll also be given great opportunities that most students don't experience until graduate school.

A lot of people don't give WCU the credit it deserves because the town isn't like a big city or large college campus. They will say there isn't much to do in Cullowhee, no bars, no shopping aside from Wal-Mart, but there is plenty to do - as long as you like the outdoors. If you're looking for the previously mentioned things on your campus, then I suggest looking at different colleges.
