I came to Saint Joe?s thinking it had an amazing atmosphere and really friendly students, but so far it has proved to be nothing but a disappointment. First off, SJU has a major housing problem. There?s only one nice freshmen dorm and that?s McShain. They over accept students and then shove extra people into rooms that are only meant for 2 people. One year, they even had to have students living at the Crowne Plaza down the street because there wasn?t enough room. I can understand if the admission numbers aren?t exactly the same as estimated, but how can you make a mistake like that! They compensate for this by taking money off your tuition, but most people really don?t have a choice as to weather this something they would like to do or not because there just aren?t enough housing options and everything is done on a lottery system. The lottery system is awful. Unless you have the first time on the first day, you are basically stuck with whatever?s left, which is usually the worst options. This goes for classes too, there are only a couple good teachers for every course and the rest are horrible. If you don?t have the first time, you won?t be getting one of them. There is no diversity; everyone is either from Pennsylvania or New Jersey. A lot of people already know each other from before because they all went to the same Catholic high school and the students tend to be cliquey, so making close friends here is not easy. The social life is extremely boring. A good amount of people go home over the weekends and there isn?t really anything to do. The parties are terrible and they charge you at least $5 and the kegs always run out 20 minutes after it starts (if the party hasn?t been busted by then). The cafeteria food is NASTY. They cook the same thing over and over again and they don?t even cook it well. I have heard people claim they?ve found nails or bugs in their food! The only thing I did like about my experience here were the professors. They are all very friendly and helpful even if they are not necessarily good teachers, but I can get this at a community college also and pay much less. The classes aren?t that challenging, some of them are way easier than my high school classes. All in all, I would SJU is a waste of money. I feel like I?m in high school all over again! If you are looking for a real college experience, then don?t come here.

commentWow I could not agree more, everything you said described SJU in a nutshell. I am going to be a senior and I wanted to transfer since freshman year but just decided to deal with it. It has been the worst 3 years of my life.
