URI isn't really the best option unless you're in state and simply looking to because its cheap. The majority or teachers I have had are very good, but classes are typically rather large. I guess large classes are to be expected at a state school. The campus is very nice looking but once you've been here a while that doesn't matter too much. Almost every student at URI is from the northeast and many people go home each weekend or commute to class. The biggest issue with the school to me is the social set up. I mean I'm not looking to get drunk every night but all the parties at URI are off campus a good twenty minutes away. There isn't a shuttle service or taxis to get you there so you're only option if you want to go to a party is to get lucky and find someone who is willing to drive. Then its likely that the driver is going to drunk drive or you could get stranded at the party and URI is far from walking distance. The only way to attend parties on campus is to be in a frat, they pretty much only have socials with another sorority. The student body is also entirely apathetic towards our sports team, which is a dissapointment because its a D1 school and we have a decent basketball program. Big time sports are one of the appealing parts of a big school but its just not a factor here. Honestly I can't recommend this school, the classes are decent but the social life just really isn't good. Also a lot of the guys here at meatheads and a lot of the females are trashy. Personally, I'm better off at a small liberal arts school and will be transferring to one at the end of this year. But even if you think you want to go to a big school I would suggest looking elsewhere because URI has the feel of a commuter school and finding a way to a party is just way more difficult than it needs to be. I really regret coming to this school and a lot of people I know feel the same way. Its just in your best interest to find another school.
