I had a really bad experience at URI. I got stuck with the roommate from hell, who said all these lies about me to move off campus. They were lies that were so extreme, violent and just plain untrue, I was shocked. The campus didn't do anything to help me they shrugged it off as if it was no big deal, but if someone says something racist the campus makes a big deal about it and e-mails everyone in the school. I didn't like how the school handled my situation, I felt alienated the first week.

The campus itself feels safe, but I wouldn't walk by myself too late at night. It is an open campus and there have been sketchy things that have gone on like a man trying to grab girls into his car. When it snows on campus, it is a nightmare. Parking lots are barely plowed, and even some main staircases have way too much snow on them and its not accessible.

Housing is only guaranteed to underclassmen, and most upperclassmen live off campus. Almost all the partying goes on off campus and if you don't have a car or a friend with a car it is impossible to get a taxi. They close really early and there aren't a lot available, I have called days in advance and they don't have any which I think is ridiculous. Greek life has a lot of parties that go on, but there aren't a ton of sororities or fraternities. There are a fair amount of snobby people who go to URI from New Jersey and New York. People usually only tend to be friends with people from their dorms. A lot of kids go home on the weekends and the campus at time feels dead.

The classes are very big. I didn't have one single class first semester with under 50 people in it. The professors aren't super approachable and I even had professors not answer my e-mails which was very frustrating. Freshman don't have an advisor until they get into their major which I think is ridiculous.

URI feels like you're just a number all the time. If you don't mind that, maybe URI is the school for you. I was here for one semester, and had to transfer to a smaller school.
