Greensboro College was a great fit for me personally. It is a VERY small (enrollment less than 1,500) liberal arts college where you get to know just about all the students that live on or near campus. The professors will know you by your name since the largest class size is usually small for college standards. The largest class I was in had 35 students and the smallest class I was in had just 2 students. Because the campus is smaller than most other schools I was able to familiarize myself with all the buildings on campus very easily within the first few weeks. It is not possible to get "lost" at Greensboro College after living there for a week or two. I played a sport (about 60% of the student population is involved in athletics) which made it much easier to meet new people. The majority of the campus is geared toward sports, drama, and marching band which I felt built a strong sense of community. The "social" aspect of Greensboro College was fine for me. I met many people who were had similar interests as me and were very easy to get along with. Lastly, GC is located in a relatively safe neighborhood called the College Hill District and is only a few blocks from downtown Greensboro. This makes it comfortable walking around the campus area and easier to pursue social opportunities because there are a lot of college students (from GC and nearby UNCG)living in the area. The neighborhood/urban setting was attractive to me because there were always things "going on" close by. I did not want to go to a college/university that was in a rural area that did not have much to offer outside of the campus itself. The downtown Greensboro area has nightclubs, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and a minor league baseball stadium all providing attractive social opportunities for 18 - 23 year old college students from diverse backgrounds. Greensboro College is a very small school in a large city and was a great fit for me.
