Augustana College is for many reasons, a great school. Despite this i don't think it was the school for me. The student body, faculty, and staff are all very friendly. However, the cost of the school for someone who is "not" receiving an absorbent amount of scholarship money is ridiculous. I received the schools presidential 16,000 dollar scholarship and a extra 2,500 for good bargaining I guess. Still though when things were said and done the school cost me 25,000 dollars a year. This is far to much money for any sane individual to be spending on school for a single year.
Also the schools liberal arts program and classes are terrible. They force you to take a lot of certain "perspective" classes that cost you time, effort and money. The classes have in my opinion are of little benefit. In a nut shell the schools liberal arts requirements ruined my college experience. I was forced to live my life in the library learning information that I will likely never use. Further my efforts and class credits will not transfer over to another school.
I once was a biology secondary education major, and was because of this already taking more classes than an average student. When my liberal arts bullshit classes were added to my work load things became unbearable. These classes literally added to my degree 30 credit hours of baggage that will never help me get a job with a future employer.
This was why Augie was not the school for me. It made my major HELL and there was no justification for it.
In my opinion those students who are considering becoming science educations majors should avoid Augustana College, because the program is Expensive, Difficult, and Unrewarding.
After reading what other have said however, I am curious to hear if anyone would have a direct response, thought or feeling regarding what I have said.
I have been up for 28 hours trying to decide if I should transfer schools. I move back in 7 days.
