Despite having a pretty bad freshman dorm, I loved the academics and friendship opportunities URI offered to me. With proper studying, class attendance, and time- management, it is quite possible to get a 3.0 or above. By joining student groups and clubs, along with making friends in other parts of the campus and commuter students, I have gotten a great social life. I highly recommend going to URI in-state, because it is a little easier to make friends, and you can build a social life when you are not at school, making the transition to college easier when returning. However, a few things about the school I did not care for were some general attitudes I found amongst numerous students, and the dorm experience I got as a freshman. I feel academically, while there are many who care about doing well, some really like to slack off and do poorly. To me, it almost seemed intentional at times, as if they really did not value the education the college provided. I feel this attitude should change amongst those students who feel as if the academics are a "waste of time" at this institution. I feel, except for chemistry, that URI provides a great education in many science courses, and specific programs. About the dorm experience, the first room mate I got was terrible, and the girls were extremely close- minded and self- absorbed throughout the hallway I was placed in. The RA's were not very helpful in this situation.

Overall, I would recommend URI to a student who was interested in the sciences, human services, or business. Liberal art's is not the strongest here, but you can get a decent education in these. I also give a higher recommendation of this college to students who are RI residents or New England Residents.
