Thanks so much for this review! Question: What kind of scholarships are available for high achievers? Do you have to go through a battery of interviews in order to get scholarships? Or are there automatic merit scholarships for kids with a certain SAT or PSAT score (and above)? My younger son is shy and introverted, and he would be swallowed alive at carolina. I think he might thrive at UNCG, especially as it is not far from home. (We live north of Winston-Salem.) Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated! |
Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
Overall, UNC-G is an underrated school. Academics are good quality. Professors know what they are talking about, and all professors I've had contact with are friendly and very accessible. My experience with advising has also been great. I have two different advisers, and they're both responsive and helpful, and don't push me in the direction they see as best. They've both also taken time to get to know me as a person. I'm a part of the Lloyd International Honors College, which is a great program. It offers interesting seminar classes, better housing options, options to study more in-depth in your major, more advising help, and grants and advice for studying abroad. Lots of people do leave on weekends, but plenty stay. If you make plenty of friends, you'll never be lonely. It's easy to make friends here, students were exceptionally welcoming my first week and I made most my friends then. As with every campus there are cliques, but they hardly make up the whole campus. The campus is also very diverse, so you'll always be able to find someone interesting. Downtown is great and easy to get to from campus. Plenty of clubs, restaurants, musuems and other things to do. Campus is beautiful!Overall, I'm really glad I came to Greensboro. I was hesitant at first, torn between going to Carolina and taking loans or going to Greensboro and being debt-free, and I'm glad I chose the latter. My friends at Carolina have made me gladder. I've heard plenty of stories of them getting lost in the shuffle of Carolina's giant student population, something that rarely happens here at UNC-G.
